New Wave
La Lune Noire is a New Wave / Electro / Alternative band from Dordrecht, Netherlands — founded around 2003 and fully active since 2008. Their music is powerful yet intimate: wistful, dance-friendly synth lines, Gregorian choirs, punky guitars, and haunting arpeggios that echo the golden new wave era while sounding unmistakably contemporary.
The band's sound was forged in personal tragedy. Vocalist and songwriter Victor Verzijl lost his parents, brother, and a close friend within a single year, and fought his own battle with cancer. From that darkness emerged dramatic lyrics paired with irresistibly catchy melodies — music that is both emotionally raw and made for the dancefloor.
Drawing inspiration from Gary Numan, Front 242, Killing Joke, Depeche Mode, early Simple Minds, and And One, La Lune Noire has released nine albums since their 2009 debut Nitrogen. Their latest, Penguin Park (2025), is named after a legendary Rotterdam dance club from the 1980s where Victor spent his youth — a full-circle moment that captures the band's deep roots in the culture they grew up with.
La Lune Noire performs regularly at new wave and dark wave festivals and clubs throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, including Wave Invasion (Belgium), Rebel Yell (Breda), and The Crossover Music Pub (Ghent).
Members: Victor Verzijl (vocals, guitar, synths), Sven Vogelezang (drums, backing vocals), Eddie Meulmeester (synthesizers), Paul Kusters (guitar).

“A real dance floor killer with nice pumping beats, and very hard to sit still. There's a lot of inspiration on this album, you can spot some Depeche Mode, Xymox, Numan, The Cassandra Complex… but yet an authentic style from this Dutch duo.”
“It's powerful, yet intimate. Wistful, danceable, catchy synth lines, punky guitars, haunting harps and lyrics that really have something to say. Inspired by the likes of Gary Numan, Front 242, Killing Joke, Depeche Mode and And One, La Lune Noire reminds you of the new wave era of the 80's, but with a modern sound and their own touch.”
